13-year-old Yemen Cornie claimed gold in the just-ended Africa Aquatics Swimming Championships.
The three day event that took place at the Aquatic Center in Borteyman saw the Sekondi Takoradi athlete Yemen Cornie winning a gold medal in the mixed medley relay adding to team Ghana’s medal tally.
The championship saw swimmers from 24 countries complete. The countries included Nigeria, Ivory coast, Cape Verde, Senegal, Togo and Mali.

In addition to the gold medal, Yemen Cornie won a silver medal in the 4×100 freestyle relay for Ghana in the seniors division.

Yemen is with the Dolphins Swim team in Sekondi-Takoradi and has participated in several championships in the last two years.
Jada Yankey also stood out as Team Ghana’s youngest competitor and the overall youngest in the competition, achieving an impressive tally of 9 medals within the first two days.
